Audiology Australia's Sound Exchange - Audiology in Action

By Fleur Golder

On Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of June I had the privilege of attending the Audiology Australia Sound Exchange 2017 Conference on the Gold Coast. I chose to participate in a specialist stream focused on tinnitus (ringing in the ears) called the “Advanced Tinnitus Masterclass”.

The presenters – Jennifer and William Martin from the National University of Singapore presented on the following topics:

  • Introduction and overview of tinnitus
  • Current theories regarding the possible cause of tinnitus
  • Programming devices for tinnitus management
  • The role of family in tinnitus care
  • Tinnitus prevention – and more!

Across the two days I was involved in several “hands on” sessions, which included case-studies and programming hearing aids for tinnitus management. The presenters, Bill and Jennifer, were exceptionally engaging and clearly experts in the field of tinnitus. The Audiology Australia Sound Exchange Conference was one of the best I’ve been to; I learnt a great deal, which I will be able to pass on to my colleagues and clients at SACIC.
